Gosport mum Joanna Murchie has earned herself a place in the final line-up of The UK Mumpreneur Awards, a prestigious annual awards ceremony aimed at celebrating parents throughout the UK who manage the difficult task of juggling business with family life.
The navy wife and mother of a 3 and 5 year old has been shortlisted in the final 10 for the Best International Business Award, for her company CV Essentials and its subsidiary, Military CV Services, out of more than 1500 nominated companies.
Formerly a senior executive in the film industry, Joanna gave up her previous career when her children came along, and has since been determined to prove that there IS another way for mums to return to work without compromising their family life.
CV Essentials was launched in 2011, followed by Military CV Services in 2013. As a Forces wife herself, Joanna understands the unique challenges faced by those leaving the military, as well as those married to the military. In May 2013 she was appointed the official CV consultant to Recruit for Spouses, an organisation that specialises in supporting military partners in finding employment. She has also been featured numerous times as a “go-to” CV expert on BBC Radio, and writes regular articles for the various armed forces family magazines.
As well as being shortlisted for this category, Joanna is also in with a chance of winning the title of The UK’s Inspirational Business Mum 2013, sponsored by The Formations Company, which will be awarded to the mum who is an inspiration to all women in business.
Having reached the finals of The Mumpreneur Awards, Joanna said “I am delighted to have been recognised for my achievements since giving up my previous career. Helping others succeed on their own career path is something I am deeply passionate about, especially those connected to the armed forces. Six years ago I was flying around the world climbing the corporate ladder; I would never have predicted then that I would be named as one of the UK’s top ten international Mumpreneurs. Running a business from home requires a lot of hard work, dedication and some very late nights, and it is a great honour to receive this recognition from the Mumpreneur UK organisation, who do so much to support mums like me.
Judging Joanna’s entry will be a panel of top entrepreneurs including Dragons’ Den’s Hilary Devey, but she'll have to wait until 28th September, when the winners will be announced at The Mumpreneur Conference and Awards, being held in Birmingham.
